Leave a Happy Plate Grilled Mango BBQ Pizza
Anyone who went to Richmond Public Schools in the 80's and early 90's was treated to a delightful culinary treasure once every couple weeks known as the barquito. Schwan's made it (I found this out via research) and discontinued it a few years back. The only way it can be described is as sort of a taco pizza with almost a corn/tortilla like crust.

The head pizza chef uses a sour dough starter giving the dough a gorgeous ferment on the dough. This pizza is if a great Brooklyn slice and a great Neapolitan slice got married and had a baby. It is not on my top 5 in Brooklyn, but the pizza did the job and I would definitely still return if I were in the area. A barquito is basically a french bread pizza topped with seasoned taco meat (probably leftover lunch from the day before) and cheddar cheese. I feel like maybe there was a similar dish with sloppy joe meat but who can really be sure. I have done my best to block out school lunch from my memories.
